All New Jersey 16 year olds must be accompanied by a driving school to DMV to obtain a student permit. Gary Thomson Driving School offers a service which includes round trip service from home to the DMV, where the permit would be generated. If the 16 year old has failed the written examination previously or has not taken it, they can take the exam that day. If the passed the written exam in school they should have received a blue or green score card. They would present this card the morning at DMV. They would also present a green permit application (fully completed), an original birth certificate (with raised seal) or passport. They would also take an eye exam. Once the permit is obtained and both written and vision are successfully completed, the six hours of driving can begin. Gary Thomson Driving School does the six hours of driving time in three 2 hour lessons. There is an cost of $10.00 to be paid to DMV for the permit to be generated.
